The MGM Legacy

From Coolie to Conglomerate, The Story of Dr. M.G. Muthu.

Dr. Manuel Gnana Muthu was born on 7 November 1935 in Thisayanvilai, Tirunelveli, into a poor Christian Nadar family. He began his working life as a headload worker at the Madras Port in the 1950s, loading cargo from ships.

Through extraordinary discipline, honesty, and a reputation for delivering beyond what he promised, he founded the MGM Group in 1963. That modest logistics enterprise grew over six decades into a ₹2,500 crore conglomerate. He authored his autobiography Rags to Riches in 1999 and received the Chevalier designation, a French civic honour. He passed away on 23 May 2018, leaving a legacy his sons carry forward with pride.
